Rustle Ashnight was hunting in the brush to try and explore the new territory. The only animals she saw were bugs and a rat every now and then. The trees were way skinnier then their old home and they were also taller. Rustle She flinched. Dash She ran! She heard and saw an animal bigger than a wolf and browner than average. She howled as she sprinted after it calling her pack I found something!. As she ran she skidded to a hault and looked. "Oh my Brightpack." She huffed out in a sudden breath. A creature twice as tall as her stood before her on hind legs. It was a bear! Ashnight had hunted one before but with her companions. She howled one last time and dashed around the bear in circles trying to confuse it. Just a distraction for the begining of the biggest hunt in moons.
She got tired of waiting for more wolves to appear. Ashnight new that she wasn't that far from the rest of the pack. She howled one more cry for assistance and then she sprang at the bears back, giving it a death grip on it's back. ~Brightpack watches over us, no matter where we are~ Brightpack watches over us, they watch us. She thought as she realized that she would have to fight alone for quite a while. All she could do was pray to Brightpack.

Moonflight dashed off with some of the warriors, ignoring the pain in her leg. Ashnight had found something!! This was so exciting. The rushed through the forest, and Moonflight couldn't focus on the differences in their new home. For not to far from where they'd set up a temporary camp, they found Ashnight, clawing at the back of a bear.

What's this? Wolves running off to some excitement without bothering to tell poor mute Silentsong again. Well, I'm coming anyway. Silentsong thought to herself, slipping after Moonflight. The sight that greeted the white wolf pup's eyes sparked a lot of excitement in her mind. Even after all of the excitement of the Great Journey. Silentsong had been regretting it's end, but this was going to be fun. Jaws open wide in a silent snarl, Silentsong leaped at the bear. Pure joy flowed through her body as the wind whipped her fur around as she sailed towards a sure-to-be-dangerous battle. She landed on the bear's stomach. Silentsong bit down as deep as she could, but couldn't get through the shaggy fur to the bear's skin. She wanted to swear really loudly. If only her body wasn't so small!! A massive paw soared through the air, heading for Silentsong. The wolf pup cleverly let go of her grip at the last possible moment, and the bear slapped itself. Anger forgotten, Silentsong was taken up in the whirl of battle again. Thinking hard, she scrambled up the nearest tree. She knew she would miss this part of being small; adult wolves couldn't climb. She looked over her shoulder, and aimed. JUMP! Silentsong landed on the animals head. Oh how fun!!! Silentsong felt exhilarated. All the other wolves were so far away, so small, she was a bird, flying above everything... the bear shook its head, jerking Silentsong back to reality. She gripped its head with her sharp claws, anchoring herself. This was her first hunt ever, she had jumped right to the most dangerous prey, skipping all those petty mice, caribou, whatever. If only she could do this every day!! The wolves below were all staring at her, barking something she couldn't hear above the growling of the bear and the rushing wind in her ears. Silentsong focused on the bear's head. Cautiously, she loosened and removed one of her paws from her grip. Reaching out, she poked the bear in the right eye. It howled like a wolf. Oh no, I'd better do this fast before it gets really mad. She thought. Silentsong dug her paw into the eye again, feeling blood gush between her claws. She repeated this to the other eye, but then she saw the ground starting to rush up. The bear was falling, though not dead. The wolf's body jerked as the bear crouched to all fours, and turned to charge at the nearest tree. Silentsong was scared, but she braced herself, willing her claws to not let go until the right time. Don't chicken out now, this is the chance of a lifetime... The bear picked up speed, and the tree got closer faster. And faster. Taking a deep breath, the pup waited still. When she could almost touch the massive plant with her nose, Silentsong launched herself to the side. The bear slammed into the tree, and fell, struggled up again, and danced around like it was dizzy, falling again. Then it got up. Silentsong went to charge at it again, but she felt herself being lifted by the scruff. "Don't you EVER EVER do that again..." she heard a wolf growl.

"Silentsong what in Brightpack's name were you thinking?" Echostream snarled enraged. "Do you find it fun to scare me to death? You'd think after you almost fell of that cliff you would be more careful! Why did you do that! You don't understand that you can't do that Silentsong. I know the feeling of wanting to be bigger, do you think I wasn't a pup once? But even I didn't go and attack a bear! They're dangerous to fully trained warriors! I know it's not very exciting being a pup but if you keep on being reckless like this you might never become a warrior and the pack would loose an amazing wolf who I know would make an amazing leader, if you learn to think." Echostream's snarl became a whimper, "Silentsong you don't understand how much you mean to me. I can't loose you like I lost your father."

Oh no, here she goes again. I wasn't born yesterday, thank you. I was just having fun, and I didn't even get scratched!! I can take on that bear by myself, and I almost had it!! Until you grabbed me... Silentsong thought furiously, but her anger faded when Echostream spoke of her father, and how she didn't want to lose her. Silentsong sighed, drooping her head. Blackfire wouldn't have liked that, either. I guess I should be nice to Echostream and not have her worry about me. But, still, I really could've killed it... Sorrow welled up in Silentsong again when she thought of Blackfire. It was my fault, mine and Moonflower's. But mostly mine. I should've died instead, not him... and I can't have any vengeance, because I can't kill myself. Well, I could, but I still want to live, and so does Echostream and Moonflower.
Silentsong just swallowed her pride and nodded in agreement, but turned to watch in renewed excitement as more wolves leaped on the weakened bear. But this time, Echostream was standing over her, ready to grab her pup if Silentsong tried to jump out again. The white wolf pup couldn't help but feel a twinge of disappointment, but that was quickly extinguished when she remembered her mother's words.

The power of that wolf never ceases to amaze me Ashnight thought as she bit the bears head, blood dripping on her teeth. She noticed some wolves had actually started tearing the bear apart when it was barely alive. But the bear was fighting so all attempts failed. The bear tried to stand of on it's hind legs again. Knocking most wolves off while some remained on, like ashnight. Good news was that the bear was too weak to stand up for long. Bad news is he fell on Ashnight. The preasure of the bear was extreme on her, but she didn't get too terribly injured, just bruised. As the bear lay on it's back, a wolf jumed on it's underbelly. Then they put down the final blow, on the throught. Then, ashnight felt more weight then ever as the bear went limp on her body. She yelped in pain and tried to scramble out. She did, eventually. Then all of the pack howled in victory for defeating the bear.

Silentsong couldn't help but bounce up and down in excitement. She had seen a real, live bear hunt, and had actually helped!!! Amazed at the warriors' strength, she made a resolution to be just as strong one day. Silentsong didn't bother to pretend to join in on the howling, that was one activity she had an excuse to skip. She rushed over and sniffed the bear, but kept her urge to start eating at bay, knowing that the alphas ate first when big prey was killed, along with the senior warriors. Small prey was delivered first to queens and elders, though. Silentsong was glad she had started eating solid food a long time ago (two to three months or so), so she would be ready to eat the bear. She waited impatiently for the howling to stop.

When they had finished their howling cry, they waited for the other wolves to come and even sent off some warriors to retrieve them. As they waited, Ashnight noticed silentsong sitting near the bear. Ashnight walked over. "You are some pup," ashnight said as she sat down and silentsong turned to her. "I have done crazy things when I was a pup, but I never jumped onto a bears head and clawed his eyes out. That is incredibly brave, wise, and original. You'll make an excellent warrior and probably have the ability to become alpha when you get older. I just wanted to let you know." Ashnight then stood and walked away and silentsong watched her. She then noticed the bears cave. And she started to walk toward it.

(I'm still a pup) Silentsong didn't know what to do, and could only stare wide-eyed as one of the best warriors in the pack praised her. Does she really mean it?? Silentsong thought to herself, a growing feeling of pride and happiness flooding through her. Could I really be an alpha??? No, there never was a mute alpha before; what makes me think I can be the first? But I'd be happy enough being a great warrior like Ashnight and Echostream. When Silentsong drifted back to reality, she realized that she was beginning to feel sore. All that leaping about and especially the jerking her body took when the bear fell to all fours was beginning to make her really tired. She turned and was about to head off to her mother when she saw Ashnight disappearing into the bear's cave. I wonder what's in there! she thought, but then she figured she shouldn't scare Echostream again, not so soon, and went over to ask permission.

Silentsong came up to Echostream who was sitting with Moonflower. Moonflower licked her sister affectionately and Silentsong returned the gesture. Then Silentsong looked up at Echostream with hope in her eyes. She nodded towards the cave where Ashnight had gone in. Echostream looked at her little pup and barked quietly, "Silentsong you know it might not be safe in there." Silentsong drooped her head sadly, "Which is why I'm going to check it out first and you will stay here with Silverspirit." She indicated at silver warrior who often watched the pups when Echostream needed to get out. She licked her pups on the head, "I'll be back soon. Stay with Silverspirit and it the cave is safe I'll take you back in." Then the white wolf turned and followed Ashnight into the cave.

Inside the cave, it was incredibly large. There were little drops of water coming off the walls which were very lumpy with rocks sticking out in various directions. Ashnight could feel the cool drops of water fall on the back of her head. And her paws were most with small puddles. The cave seemed large enough to hold the whole pack. Even though it was wet, it was still very warm. After the horrible journey of coming back to the pack, Ashnight had not slept very well. But the cave was so insulated and tranquil that she felt sleepy. She sat in the far back of the cave and lied down. The drops of water were calming and the area had moss growing so it wasn't hard. Ashnight was at peace.

"Ashnight! Ashnight!" Moonflight howled, searching the surrounding area. "Ashnight, everyone's here to eat the bear." Most of the entire pack had arrived to feast on the bear. But they wanted Ashnight, who delivered the final blow, to eat first with the alphas. They agreed to let Silentsong eat with the warriors for her courage, but not the alphas, since she disobade orders to stay at camp. Moonflight continued to follow Ashnight's scent, until she came to the edge of a large cave. "Wow."

Ashnight lifted her head. Seeing now that echostream and moonflight had both come in and seen the amazing cave. She then stood up and yawned as she stretched. She then started to walked over to echostream and said "I think this could make a good shelter for our pack."

Echostream emerged from the cave entrance and beckoned to Silentsong. The little wolf happily jumped up and ran over, her tail swinging from side to side. She skidded to a halt at the cave entrance, and slowly padded in. It was wet, and Silentsong could hear drops of water dripping around her. Always curious, she wanted to figure out where the water was coming from. Why is it dripping?? The ceiling is solid stone! Her head raised, she paced back and forth examining the roof. Silentsong saw tiny quantities of water running along the roof. The 'sticking' quality of water out weighed gravity, and the water stayed suspended until to much water collected and formed a drip, which fell. But still, where is it coming from?? Silentsong spotted a drip about to fall. She stood under it, but slightly to the side so she wouldn't get hit in the eye. She traced the trail of barely noticeable water and began following it. The ground began sloping downwards as she neared the back of the cave to where Ashnight had been resting. The trickle almost reached the place where the cave wall and ceiling met, then curved to the left. The other wolves were staring at Silentsong as if she had gone mad, but she paid no attention. The trickle was going to a corner of the cave - the far left back one. Silentsong gasped (it's just a sharp intake of breath, so she can do that, just like sighing). Here was a place where the wall didn't meet the ceiling. There was a gap about half to a fourth of a paw's width wide, and the water was coming from there! This means one thing... Silentsong thought to herself. The cave doesn't stop here. The fact that this wall doesn't connect with the ceiling means this wall has absolutely no use in keeping the cave upright, in other words, holding the ceiling up. There must be more beyond that, otherwise the crack would be filled in with dirt... Silentsong's eyes widened when she noticed that light, as well as water was coming from the crack. She put out paw and heaved against the stone. Nothing. She pawed it, and pieces tumbled off. This must be a rock pile, and if we remove it, there MUST be more to the cave!

"Let me help." Moonflight woofed as the pup was clawing at the rocky wall. She began to claw too, making some rocks tummble away. As more and more rocks fell, more light cracks appeared. More water began to seep through as well. Silentsong placed a paw on the biggest boulder, and Moonflight watched as the pup began to heave it to the side. Moonflgith pulled with her paw as well, and pulled away the rest of the boulder. The two dogs jumped aside to avoid the sudden tumble of rocks, and saw...
