(This takes place in the wolves old home.) Moonflight was shaking with excitement. Today Echostream had promised to teach Moonflight some fighting skills. She was still a moon away from her apprentice ship, but Silentsong, a pup only a moon or two younger than her, was with the healer and Moonflight was anxious to learn. "Okay, this is an easy one, but it's still dangerous. So don't use it unless nessesary. We don't need to battle every one." Echostream woofed. Moonflight nodded happily. Echostream brought her paw down on Moonflight's head, and slowly slipped it down her nose. "In battle, it is done much quicker and you want to damage the face with your claws." Echostream woofed. "I'm ready to try!" Moonflight barked optimistically. She copied Echostream, slowly dragging her paw down her face. When she finished, Echostream stared past her in awe and fright. Had she done that well? "Run, Moonflight." Echostream whispered in a horrified tone. "What?" Moonflight asked, confused. "Run!!!" The two wolves ran as fast as they could out of the snow covered clearing. From what? Moonflight slowed behind her mentor, and hid behind a bush. Her white and gray coat practically made her invisible in the winter weather. That's when she saw it. A gigantic Monster. Four times as tall as any wolf. It was yellow and black. A horrid smell like smoke filled Moonflight's nose. She coughed and spat, but the smell was everywhere. Then she realized the blade. Big, circular disks that were cutting the tree down at the trunk. A loud crunching and buzzing sound filled the air. The trees around her began to fall, and one caught on her tail. "Echostream! Help!" Moonflight howled, trying to escape before more trees began to fell. "Moonflight!" Echostream howled behind the smog of the machine. She had been looking for the pup. Echostream dug out Moonflights tail, and picked her up by the scruff. Moonflight was still young enough to be treated like a pup! Echostream began to race back to camp, easily outrunning the monster while carrying Moonflight. Moonflight thought in awe of how strong her mentor was. She should have listened to her. As they got closer and closer to the cave, the smog stayed. It never cleared from their vision, no mater how far they got from the monster. Moonflight's eyes stung and her nose and throat hurt. Oh, what she would do for some fresh air. Finally they reached the wolf cave. Everyone was outside, staring at the forest with horror. Tree were falling in all parts of the territory. It was if the forest had come to life, just to die. Echostream dropped Moonflight at the entrance, and ran to check on her two pups. Moonflight ran to tell the alphas, but the deputy stopped her, only shaking his head. They already knew. "We have to leave." The Alpha Male announced. "Now!"

Echostream stared up at the Alpha Male in shock. Leave? They were going to leave their home? But they had lived here for longer then any wolf could remember. How could they leave? And what about her pups? She was experienced enough to know that the monsters could kill her pack and pups easily but leaving could kill Moonflower and Silentsong as well. "What about the pups!" she yowled up to her leader. "I know that the monsters are dangerous but I don't think Silentsong will be able to survive in the condition she's in. What are we going about that. Our whole pack can't be fast enough. I was with Moonflight but we have pups and elders. What about that? What if the tamers bring more monsters? Our whole pack can't outrun them and you know that."

Silentsong was lying in the healer's den, bored half to death. She still refused to look at Rushingwater, and knew she was in big trouble. But then she heard some commotion outside. Pricking up her ears, she listened as the Alpha Male ordered the pack to leave. Leave!? Silentsong thought in alarm. And never come back?? She didn't know how to comprehend this. In a way she was happy - she wouldn't have to lie here all day any longer, but another part of her knew she would miss the forest and their camp. But then she heard Echostream yowl at the leader that the pups and elders wouldn't be able to make the journey. Silentsong heard her name mentioned. I can make this jouney!! She wanted to howl, and struggled up to her paws. The healer was outside listening to orders, so no one told her to stop. All she heard was a growl from Rushingwater, which she ignored besides a contemptuous sniff. Silentsong rushed outside, trying not to limp so that she would seem stronger and prove that she could go.

Echostream was staring up at her leader with a challenge in her eyes. Then she heard scuffling behind her and turned to see Silentsong coming out of the healer's den. "Silentsong," she barked quietly and ran over to her little pup, "you shouldn't be out here you should be resting. We have a long journey ahead of us." As she looked down at her pup and looked towards the nursery where she knew Moonflower was sleeping she knew that she would do anything to keep them safe. She turned to her leader and bowed her head in respect. She knew that she could get in big trouble for defying him. "Fine," she growled, "we'll leave." Then she raised her head up and looked him straight in the eyes, she saw him flinch back when her eyes met his, "but if anything happens to my pups I will do what I think is the best for them. Even if that means leaving the pack and living with them alone."

(sorry. After I wrote that I tried to edit it of training, but I must have missed one) "Get up," MorningFrost, Moonflight's mother, barked. "we're leaving." "What? I don't want to leave the forest!" Moonflight barked back. "I know the monsters are dangerous, but I can take them! I don't want to leave the forest." "One thing will always be with us. Brightpack and the moon always follow us. They will never leave us Moonflight, remember that." Morningfrost woofed. Moonflight sighed. There was no point in arguing. They would leave, and there was nothing a pup like her could do about it. As the sunset, The Alphas led the pack out of the cave. The elders and kits had agreed to go, the apprentice would assist there crossing. "We will go towards the sun. We will always find hope in its path." The Alpha Female woofed, then turned towards the sunset. Distant, purple mountains were on the border. They would have to cross them. No trees, no grass, no Caribou. Not to mention they were on the brink of Leafbare. The snow was deep already. Could they pass the mountain through that? As the moon rose above the wolf cave, Moonflight howled to it one last time. The whole pack joined in, until the echos cascaded off the mountains. Like a long, sad goodbye to the forest. New home here we come.

With a long journey ahead of them, Ashnight was hopeful. With a new home away from the horrid tamers. "Maybe we'll find some more caribou!" She said trying to cheer up the pups. No happy wolves came. She stopped talking thinking that she would make their sorrow worse.

Echostream ran in the middle of the pack with her pups Moonflower and Silentsong at her feet. Silentsong was determined not to show fear or weakness but her sister was a different story. Moonflower was looking around in fear and wonder as the pack ran. Then they heard a rumbling and the stench of another monster hit their noses. Moonflower squealed in fear and tripped over her feet. Some of the pack just jumped over her as the monster came into, Echostream shoved Silentsong ahead and picked up Moonflower in her teeth. Then another monster appeared from a different direction and the pack was forced to split up. They ran in different directions and when the smoke cleared the pack was gone. Echostream was all alone with Moonflower and Moonflight. Echostream looked around in fear but the smoke still stung her eyes and she couldn't scent anything except the foul stench of the monster. Echostream raised her head and howled but no one answered. Silentsong was with the rest of the pack and Echostream had no idea where they were.

The alphas checked the pack seeing who was seperated. 2 pups and one wolf were reported gone. Ashnight noticed that Moonflight and Moonflower were not there. Yet silentsong was. ' I wonder why moonflower and moonflight are gone. What do they have in common.' Ashnight thought. Then she realized! Moonflight was going to be Echostreams apprentice and Moonflower was her pup. ' Then they must be with Echostream.' She found that she was not the only wolf to discover this. Ashnight went to the alphas and told them that someone should go and find them. The alphas agreed and asked for volunteers.

Moonflower and Moonflight stayed close to Echostream as the wolf tried to figure out where the pack had gone. They had gone away from their old home and where the monsters were in hope of finding the pack but it was no use and it sounded like the tamers and their monsters were getting closer. Echostream raised her head again and howled as long as she could, but there was no answer. Moonflower whimpered and huddled even closer to Echostream, the beautiful white wolf bent her head to lick the pup comfortingly. Then Moonflight stiffened and Echostream pricked her ears to try and figure out what the pup had scented. The stench of tamers hit her nose and she realized that there was a tamer looking right at her and the pups. In the tamers strange paws was a fire-stick, and it was pointed right at Moonflight.

Everyone turned. They heard a howl. The howl was a cry for help. Ashnight had volunteered to go find Echostream. The only thing she thought of doing was trying to follow where the howl had come from. Then she howled as loud as she could, hoping to here Echostream again.

Moonflight had a second to decide. Two choices. Run, or attack. Attacking: This creature was much bigger than her, with an unknown weapon. Moonflight knew one attack move, which she had practiced in slow motion. Run: Moonflight had four legs. This thing had two. Perhaps she could outrun it. But leave Echostream and Moonflower? Then again, attacking didn't seem like the best option. Moonflight ran. She ran as fast as her little paws could carry her. Echostream followed, carrying the stunned Moonflower in her jaw. Echostream was advancing, and for a second Moonflight thought that maybe the tamer wouldn't follow them.
CRACK!
A Searing pain ran up Moonflight's right back leg. She fell to the ground, howling in pain. It was as if someone had cut her leg off. It was numb, but the pain seeped through. Blood poured out of her leg, staining her coat red. "Moonflight!" Echostream and Moonflower barked at the same time. Echotream came running back. "What's wrong?" Moonflower asked. "She's been shot." Echostream woofed, examining the wound. "What's shot?" Moonflight asked worridly. "Tamer firesticks shoot rocks that cause wholes in us. We'll worry about that later, we have to get away from the tamer." Another crack sounded. The tamer was here.

Ashnight paused hearing a large crack after her howl. She moved towards the noise and saw a tamer behind the bushes. He was carrying firesticks. She searched around the tamers clearing. Behind another bush she saw Echostream and the pups. Ashnight noticed one had been shot. She ran back to the pack to report the condition of the other wolves.

Echostream pushed Moonflower behind a bush and turned to Moonflight. The pup's leg was bleeding and she knew that Moonflight wouldn't be able to walk let alone run. Echostream turned to the tamer who was pointing his firestick at the wounded pup. Echostream growled menacingly and the tamer stepped back. It shot the firestick but missed Echostream by a tail length. Then she heard a rustling and Moonflower crept out of the bushes, "Mama?" she squeaked, "Mama? Are you ok?"
"Mooflower!" Echostream yowled get back. The tamer pointed it's firestick at Moonflower and prepared to fire. Moonflower squealed in shock and turned to run but she tripped over her over sized paws and Echostream saw the tamer prepare to fire the firestick. An unusual feeling filled Echostream and at first she didn't recognize it, the she did. It was rage. As the rage filled her Echostream did the only thing she could think of. She launched herself at the tamer, aiming for it's throat.

Silentsong dropped back into a crouch. Nobody ever cared to ask her, she thought bitterly. Even when it was her mother and sister in danger. Just because she couldn't talk didn't mean that she was useless. But still. No one thought to ask her to come along in the search party, and of course Silentsong couldn't insist on coming. She felt so much like growling, but could only bare her teeth in frustration. Silentsong followed Ashnight silently, trusting the black wolf to lead her to her mother. She heard howling, and ear-splitting cracks. Then Ashnight turned abruptly around. Silentsong ducked and squirmed into a bush, not daring to breathe, and was almost spotted by Ashnight, but the wolf passed by without realizing she was there. Silentsong let out a breath of relief. Peering behind the bush, she saw Echostream, Moonflower, and Moonflight cowering before a Tamer. Moonflight was bleeding. Silentsong's logic told her that the tamer had done this. She bared her teeth viciously again. But now.. what's this?? The Tamer is pointing his stick at Moonflower. Oh, he wouldn't dare. Silentsong's mind exploded in a picture of red, and she opened her mouth wide in a silent scream of rage. Leaping out of her cover, she hit the Tamer's back just as her mother launched herself at his front. Silentsong could hardly think. She was a killing machine now, and all she could do was use every weapon nature had equipped her with to destroy this Tamer. Cracks sounded wildly in the air, and the Tamer yelled. Silentsong scored her claws in the Tamer's flesh, and clung through the bloody mess onto his bones. Jaws wide, she bit down as hard as her jaw muscles would allow her to onto his neck and held on. She would never let go, never, never, never, but then, the Tamer fell, and the ground came rushing up to her, and hit with the softness of complete blackness.
